16th Magic Wood Clean Up Day

ree

Even it seemed to be quiet at Bodhi Camping, towards the end of registration we got a good 85 volunteers on the list whom joined our legendary clean up day at Magic Wood. As for this year my Saturday night speech will do for the report as it say it all.

Good evening, everyone,

It’s wonderful to see all of you here tonight, gathered at Bodhi Camping, in this beautiful place we call Magic Wood. We’ve come together for the 16th Clean Up Day—not just to clean boulders and pick up litter, but to show our love and respect for this forest, for the land, and for the community that surrounds it.I actually had two speeches in mind tonight… one straight from the heart about disappointment, values, and feelings, and the other one written on these papers, prepared over the last few days. As I’m in a process of personal growth, I’ll rise above certain matters — and I’m sure you’d rather hear this speech. So I’ll stick to the script.

Why We’re Here

Magic Wood is special. For climbers, it’s world-famous. But for the people of this valley, it is also home. It’s part of their daily lives, their traditions, their beliefs, and their future. When we care for Magic Wood, we are not only protecting nature—we are also showing respect for the local community that has welcomed climbers from all over the world. That’s why the work of IG Magic Wood is so important. They act as a bridge between locals, visitors, and Magic Wood itself. They remind us that climbing here is a privilege, not a right, and with that privilege comes responsibility. Thanks to their efforts, paths are repaired, plants are protected, and the voice of the local community is heard.

Today’s Effort

What we did today may seem simple—cleaning boulders, collecting rubbish, clearing trails, caring for the forest. But together, these small actions make a huge difference. They keep this place safe, clean, and alive for future generations of climbers and nature lovers. And they remind us that real strength doesn’t just lie in sending a hard boulder—it lies in working together to protect the land that gives us so much joy.

Looking Ahead

This work does not end today. The Clean Up Day is just one highlight in a much longer journey. IG Magic Wood continues with projects to restore and protect the forest. They welcome not only our hands, but also our ideas, our skills, and our continued support. Every one of us can play a part—whether by volunteering, spreading awareness, or simply being mindful each time we step into the forest.

Thanks

Before I close, I want to take a moment to give thanks.

  • To all the volunteers: You are the heart of this event. Without your energy and willingness to give back, Magic Wood would not shine as it does tonight.

  • To members of IG Magic Wood: Your dedication, year after year, ensures that this forest is cared for in the right way—with respect, patience, and vision.

  • To our sponsors—Petzl, Gebro Verlag, Panico Alpinverlag, Bächli Sport, Friction Labs, Naturpark Beverin, and of course Bodhi Climbing: your generous support makes this event possible, from providing prizes to keeping everyone fed, equipped, and ready for the task.

  • And last but not least, to my team and staff: You deserve the biggest thanks of all. What you do goes far beyond logistics—you carry the Bodhi spirit in everything you do. You work behind the scenes to organize, to coordinate, and to solve problems before they even appear. You give your time, your energy, and your heart—not just for this event, but throughout the whole season, day after day, week after week. You create the atmosphere that makes people feel welcome here, like part of a family. I am proud of you, and deeply grateful for everything you give.

Closing

As we end the day and night falls over the forest, let us carry this spirit forward. Let’s remember that every time we come here—to climb, or simply to enjoy the peace of the forest—we are also guardians of this place.Together, we’ve shown that Magic Wood is not just a climbing area. It is a community, a living forest, and a shared treasure. And with your support, it will remain so for many years to come.

Thank you all—and now let’s continue to keep the magic alive, and celebrate together with DJ Falco!
